It Works is a book by R.H. Jarrett — initially published in 1926. This book will surprise you with its simplicity and to-the-point nature. The book’s tagline is “The famous little red book that makes your dreams come true!”.
This book is about 32 pages. But I read the digital version, which was only 11 pages.
According to this book, you can get anything you want if you know what it is.
The author had sent a book manuscript to a friend for criticism. After reading and applying the techniques in the book, the friend said, “It works,” which eventually became the title for the book.
Do You Know What You Want?
It is easy to get what you want in life — money, good health, relationships, a job, or whatever. It doesn’t matter how big it is; it is achievable.
Have you ever wondered why some people get what they want in life and others don’t?
The main reason for this is that most people don’t know what they want in life.
Those who know what they want in life have a better chance of getting it.
The “I Wish” Mentality
You need to understand the difference between want and wish. Most people wish they had a better life. For instance, they wish they could live their lives a certain way — like the successful people around them. Similarly, they wish they had a nice car, more money, or a better relationship.
When you wish for something, it indicates that you are not sure about it. When you say, “I wish I had that car,” it suggests that you are unclear what you want. Instead, you are just expecting to have it. I call it the “I wish” mentality.
Get out of the “I wish” mentality. Instead, think clearly about what you want.
The author says that the things we want are like radio waves. If we can tune it correctly, we will get perfect results.
The Great Power Within You
“You have within you a mighty power, anxious and willing to serve you, a power capable of giving you that which you earnestly desire.”
Wishing something will not communicate your desires to the incredible power within you. You must be in earnest, sincerely, and truthfully desiring certain conditions or things — mental, physical, or spiritual.
Take your time and give some thoughts on what you really want. It might not be easy. Your desires can change frequently. But be sure of what you want. Remember to avoid the “I wish” mentality.
The Plan
The author describes a simple yet powerful plan to achieve the things you want.
The plan is to write down the things that you want. It can be anything. Don’t limit yourself. Try to be as specific as you can about what you want. If it is money, write the amount. If it is a car, write about its color, size, price, style, etc.
Change the list daily — until you are happy with it, you can add new things or remove unwanted items from your list. Make sure it is definite and clear.
You can still change it later if you want more things or remove certain items.
Three Positive Rules of Accomplishment
Now that you have written down a list of things you want, here’s what you have to do with it.
- Read it three times every day — morning, noon, and night.
- Think of the things on the list as often as possible.
- Do not talk to anyone about your list. Do it only with the great power within you.
That’s it. That is all you have to do to achieve what you want.
How Does It Happen?
It can’t be that easy to get what you want. Right?
You probably have a lot of doubts and questions. It is understandable not to have faith from the very beginning.
The author says you simply have to follow the plan and the three rules. You don’t have to worry about how it will happen.
You have to trust the great power within you. The how part is a mystery.
Do these for effective results and make it more believable for you:
- Keep reading the list when you have doubts, distrust, and questions.
- Remove items as they make progress to accomplishment.
- Talk to yourself about your desires time and again.
- Once a desire has been accomplished, give credit to, and thank the power within you.
- Don’t try to understand it, but accept the accomplishment with thankfulness, happiness, and strengthened faith.
