We live in a world of distractions — endless scrolling, binge-watching, and never-ending content. In a time filled with information at the tip of our fingers, it’s easy to consume and become inhabitant to it.
For instance, you scroll on your phone for hours daily, watching TikTok or YouTube. That’s consumption at its core.
If you found this article, it’s a sign that you must stop consuming and start creating because that’s what you are meant to do in this world.
You are ready now.
You don’t have to be an expert to start creating. You don’t have to wait or be better than others. You don’t need more books, videos, or other resources to build something because you have already consumed enough.
You are ready to create now. It can be something small and simple. It might not be as high-quality as you see other people do it, but you don’t need to consume more to create. Do what you can, and use what you have.
You can’t wait for the perfect moment because it will never come. Start now, and figure it out later.
Create to make a positive impact.
God put you on this earth not to scroll on TikTok. Your purpose is much greater than consuming every day. You aim to create something meaningful, help others, and improve the world.
Create to make a positive impact on people and society. Again, it doesn’t have to be something significant. Your work might help one person. That’s a success. And if you can put out more work and help more people, you become a better creator.
Creating can provide opportunities to make money, meet new people, and benefit society. Fulfilling your purpose—to create something meaningful—provides external rewards. However, remember to do it for the purpose, not for these outcomes.
Creating will also attract criticisms and feedback, which might put you off. Some creators can’t handle other people criticizing their work, and it leads to negative consequences. However, criticisms and feedback are actually good for you. They help you improve and give back what you learned. In other words, it makes you a better creator (and person).
So, create for fulfillment, purpose, and service to others.
Create what you are already consuming.
What should you create? It’s a question most people get confused about. They are good at consuming because it’s easy. But they doubt themselves as creators.
That’s completely normal thinking.
The best way to begin creating is to start with what you already consume. For example, if you watch football videos, you can create content about the sport by writing blogs, making videos on YouTube or TikTok, or talking about it in your podcast.
I used to work as a research analyst at an investment bank. I wrote blog posts on personal finance and investing when I began writing online. It was a good way to share my knowledge and expertise.
Consuming is easy. Producing takes a lot of thought and effort.
Doing what’s easy won’t help you grow as a person. You become stuck in the same cycle you have always been.
Humans are creatures of habit. We like to be in our comfort zones. However, that’s the most harmful place because a comfort zone kills success. Instead, doing hard things is the best way to learn and succeed at anything you do.
Joe Rogan said, “Difficult things make regular life less difficult.”
Going to the gym and working out is hard, but building physical strength and becoming healthy is necessary. Starting a business is difficult, but creating financial freedom and wealth is needed.
Every hard thing you do comes with a favorable outcome. You must be brave enough to take the first step — start. Then, consistently pursue it to gain effective results.
