Money Might Not Buy You Happiness. But It Will Give You These Four Powers.

Money is something everybody wants.

Even the wealthy keep dreaming about how to grow their wealth and go from millionaires to billionaires.

Making money is like a never-ending journey. It’s never truly enough, even though you might think having ten million dollars will make you stop.

Sadly, it won’t.

Why is money so powerful that everybody wants it?

Well, there are the necessities that all humans want to fulfill. But that isn’t only the reason we want to make money. According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, the physiological needs (food, water, shelter, clothing, etc.) lie at the bottom.

For most lower and middle-class people, money helps them fulfill their physiological needs. However, they do not settle down even after their needs have been fulfilled. We are programmed in a way that we want more, especially when it comes to money and wealth.

Money might not buy you happiness. But not having money surely won’t.

As I said, money isn’t just about fulfilling our basic needs. It’s about obtaining power. Yes, money makes you powerful in today’s society. Therefore, you should make as much money as you can to gain that power.

Let’s look into the four powers of money.

1. Power of choice

Having a lot of money makes your life easier because you will have options.

  • Where do you want to live?
  • What work do you want to do?
  • How do you want to spend your time?

These are some general choices you can make when you are wealthy. You won’t have them if you are struggling to make money. Instead, other people will be making these decisions for you.

Besides these basic choices, you can also choose to purchase any material item you like without having to worry about whether you can afford it or not.

2. Power to own your time

Money buys you freedom. You can spend your time doing what you like. It is one of the best perks of wealth, and it’s also why I want to make more money.

If you have money, you can live anywhere in the world and do anything you want. You can do what you want with your time, and you won’t have to ask permission from your boss or parents to do something.

Time is a valuable asset. How you spend it is in your hands. Poor people don’t have the option to choose how they spend their time. Their only option is to work for money.

However, the rich can spend time with their family, work, relax at home, go on a vacation, or do nothing at all. They won’t get any poorer spending their time doing something they like.

3. Power to be respected

One thing I have noticed about having a lot of money is that it allows others to take you more seriously.

People respect you and want to be your friend because you are wealthy. They tend to be automatically attracted to riches. The reason is quite apparent — building a network with the wealthy is always an advantage for everybody.

Living in a society where people only respect you because of your money is sad.

It is also a lesson that we should give value to people because of who they are and not because of how much money they have.

4. Power to live your wildest dreams

Money can make your wildest dreams come true. Whether you want to go on vacation to your favorite destination or start a new career, having a good financial status makes it possible.

Those who have money and can pay for anything they want get to have an extraordinary life. Others think it’s not possible in this lifetime.

Everything costs money in today’s world. For example, if you want to become a photographer, you need a good camera and some expensive gear. If you don’t have the bank balance to afford it, forget your dream and go work on that life-sucking corporate job.

Final thought

Most people think money can only buy material stuff. That’s not entirely true. What makes you wealthy goes beyond the things you can buy, like time, freedom, choices, and more.

Yes, money will not buy you happiness. Most rich people are depressed and mentally unstable. All their money is of no use if their health isn’t on point.

Further, money won’t fix all your relationships. After all, we are social beings. We need human companionship to be happy and live a fulfilled life. Unfortunately, money will not solve these problems.

Money is a necessity, and it will definitely make your life easier. But it can’t give you everything.

Make money. Live a good life. And use your money to do good for the world.
