Your appearance makes the first impression on people, although many think it’s personality.

People only notice your personality after spending a few minutes or hours with you. The first thing every other person notices about you is how you look.

Therefore, making an extra effort to enhance your appearance is crucial. You don’t have to overdo it and look like a celebrity. You can do it on a reasonable budget.

Working on your appearance is not just to attract others. It’s more about how you feel, which reflects on the external.

For instance, when you look good:

  • you increase confidence,
  • you improve your health,
  • you can persuade others,
  • you attract opportunities,
  • you develop a better personality.

Understanding these benefits influenced me to work on my appearance. It’s been three years since I started giving extra effort to my looks, and the results have been highly positive.

Below are five things I do or must enhance my appearance on a budget.

1. A daily skincare routine

I wasn’t into skincare until my late twenties. I used to think only women liked doing it.

However, thanks to my girlfriend, I understood the importance of caring for my skin. It’s been two years since I have been following a daily skincare routine.

Most women know the importance of skincare and know the different products they need for healthy skin. Most adult men don’t know much about skincare and don’t care much about it.

Skincare is equally essential for men.

My daily skincare routine is simple and easy. It took me some research and trial and error to understand what suited my skin.

Here’s what my skincare routine includes:

  • Clean my skin with a hydrating cleanser twice a day.
  • Moisturize after cleansing.
  • Use an SPF-50 sunscreen daily. I also re-apply the cream during the day whenever I can.

That’s it.

Besides my daily routine, I also try to do a deep facial once a quarter every year.

2. Working out with a set of dumbells

A few years ago, I used to work out at a local gym near my house. However, it was demolished due to some issues with the owners.

So, I stopped working out at the gym and bought a set of dumbbells for about a hundred dollars. I can easily switch weights on the dumbbells. Having the only equipment you need to stay fit has worked well for me. I can work every muscle with it.

Having a fit body and staying healthy is crucial for everyone.

The goal should be to take care of your body by exercising. You can play a sport, train in the gym, or do basic body-weight exercises. Whatever you do, it should help you remain fit and healthy.

I also run 3–4 days weekly to burn extra calories and maintain cardio workouts. Running has provided me with several health and creative benefits.

Having a healthy body gives me confidence. Being in good shape has helped me enhance my appearance.

3. Old money outfits

Your outfit makes a huge difference in your appearance. If it’s something you should invest money in, it should be a good wardrobe.

Again, you don’t have to buy expensive clothes to look good. There are many hacks to buy good-looking clothes for cheap prices.

I do the same.

I don’t wear designer clothes with logos and branding.

Instead, I wear simple outfits, including plain T-shirts or shirts, well-fitting pants, and sneakers. I like the “old money” look.

I make sure my clothes fit me well. Sometimes, I go a step further and get help from a tailor to ensure the fit in my clothes.

Exercising also helps me look good in my outfits. Remember, a good body can make you look ten times better in your clothes.

4. Having a good haircut and grooming

As a guy, I put extra effort into my hair and grooming routines. I have short hair, and I like it that way.

I visit my barber once every 2–3 weeks to get a crisp look. My hairstyle is usually the same, so my barber knows what I want.

Everyone has different tastes in hairstyles and types of hair. Depending on your type and style, maintaining a good-looking haircut is crucial.

It’s also okay to change your style occasionally if you want to.

I don’t do it much.

I am also careful about my grooming. I haven’t grown a long beard in a while. My current style is a clean-shaven face, which has remained the same for years. My grooming essentials include showering daily, cleaning my nose, putting on a good cologne, maintaining good oral hygiene, and trimming my nails often.

5. Wearing a classy watch

This might not be everyone’s cup of tea.

I’m into watches and have a good collection of classy watches that aren’t very expensive. The most I have spent on a watch is $500. Believe me, some people spend crazy money on watches. And by “crazy,” I mean thousands of dollars.

You can get exceptional watches for reasonable prices from brands like Casio, Seiko, Orient, Timex, Citizen, Tissot, and more.

I don’t leave the house without a watch on my wrist. It’s like a part of my clothing. I like to wear a watch that matches my outfit. Sometimes, my selection of watches also depends on where I’m going or who I’m seeing.

Wearing a watch or other accessories enhances your looks. Everyone should include them in their daily wear.

6. Good-smelling colognes

Having a good smell increases your attractiveness by a hundred times. It should be a mandatory part of your daily grooming routine.

I don’t leave the house without putting on a good-smelling perfume. I also have a collection of the best colognes. I switch between them depending on my mood or where I’m going.

Some people like to smell the same, so they have a specific choice of perfume. I’m not like that. I prefer experimenting with different scents and trying them on multiple occasions.

You can easily find great colognes for $100 to $500. Some cheaper options (<$100) also work best and give you an expensive smell.

Invest in your appearance as it can benefit you at work or when meeting new people.

As I said, your appearance is the first thing others notice about you. That instant glance can tell a lot about you. Invest well in your appearance to gain the upper hand in life.

Looking good gives you the self-confidence to confront any life circumstance without fear.
